Swedish EV maker Polestar has shown off its first SUV, which is sure to boost sales for the brand.
It cost from £79,900 and was the first Polestar to be made in both China and the United States. However, it was only made in Ridgeville, South Carolina.
In the high-end market, the Polestar 3 will go up against electric SUVs like the Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and Audi e-tron.
It will come with a standard dual-motor engine that makes 483bhp and 618lb ft of torque when it first comes out. That’s enough to get the 2.5-ton 4×4 from 0 to 62 mph in 5 seconds and all the way up to 130 mph.
A performance pack is available that adds 27bhp and 51lb ft of torque. This cuts 0.3sec off the time it takes to go from 0 to 62mph.
Some people think that the 111kWh lithium-ion battery in the long Range Polestar 3 is more important. It is said to have a range of up to 379 miles and a charge rate of up to 250kW. It can also charge both from the car and the grid, and it comes with a heat pump as standard.
The car looks like a stretched Volvo C40 Recharge from the front, and it has aerodynamic features like air ducts in the front of the hood and a raised spoiler on top of the tailgate.
The products used in Polestar 3 were chosen because they are good for the environment. Some of these are bio-attributed MicroTech, leather that has been confirmed as good for animals, and fully traceable wool upholstery.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said, “Polestar 3 is a powerful electric SUV that appeals to the senses with a unique, Scandinavian design and great driving dynamics.”
The move brings Polestar production to the United States, which is the next step in our manufacturing base. We’re happy and excited to add more products to our line as we continue to grow quickly.
