Vauxhall Corsa leading the charge

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has released its May sales data, and they show that the Vauxhall Corsa was the best-selling vehicle in the United Kingdom.

With 17,198 registrations so far this year, the supermini—which comes with both petrol and diesel engines as well as an all-electric powertrain—is also the most popular vehicle. The Ford Puma (15,426) is the car that comes in second.

However, May saw a 20.6% drop in new car registrations to 124,394 units, marking yet another month of declines. This loss is mostly attributable to the worldwide scarcity of computer chips, which is impacting the manufacture of automobiles.

Positively, sales of battery electric vehicles, often known as EVs or BEVs, increased by 17.7% last month, accounting for one in every eight new automobiles registered.
