The market for used cars slows as consumers tighten their belts.

 

 

In comparison to the same period in the previous year, there were around 407,000 fewer used cars sold in the second quarter of 2022.

According to fresh data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), used automobile sales fell by 18.8% to 1,759,684 between April and June.

During the quarter, 95.6% of sales were made up of gasoline and diesel cars, while EV sales increased by 57% to account for 1% of the used market. Hybrids decreased by 4% while plug-in hybrids increased by 1%.

Ford Fiesta ST

With 71,429 transactions, the Ford Fiesta was the most popular used vehicle in Q2. The Volkswagen Golf (54,268) and Vauxhall Corsa (57,306) were the next most popular vehicles.

Grey and blue were the next most popular colours for secondhand cars, after black. Overall, the least popular car was the pink one.
